7 April 2006:
Invitation to a film presentation and discussion
Ladies and Gentlemen,
If the world had drawn the lessons from Auschwitz, then Rwanda, Srebrenica
and Darfour ought to have been prevented. But the world kept silent and continues
to keep silent.
This sad and questioning statement was made by Elie Wiesel, Auschwitz survivor
and Nobel Prize winner, at the United Nations on the occasion of the 60th anniversary
of the liberation of Auschwitz in January 2005.
We want to take up this question in the framework of a film presentation and
discussion
on Friday, 28 April 2006, at 7.00 pm
at the URANIA, An der Urania 17, 10787 Berlin, in cooperation with
"
Film Prize for Peace", the IPPNW and the Urania.
At the beginning there
will be a discussion between Dr Gottfried Köfner, Head of the UNHCR
Office in Berlin and Lotte Leicht, Director Europe of the Human Rights Watch,
in remembrance
of the victims of the genocide in Rwanda, that started on 7 April 1994 and
the incidents in Darfour.
The presenter will be: Christoph Heubner, Vice-President of the International
Auschwitz Committee.
After the discussion the film “Hotel Rwanda” (South Africa/GB/I,
2004) which won a prize at the Berlin Film Festival Berlinale in 2005, will
be presented.
Tickets: 4 €.
We would be glad to welcome you to this event.
