It is with deepest gratitude and sadness that Auschwitz survivors around the world are bidding farewell to their friend and fellow sufferer Trude Simonsohn who has passed away at the age of 100 years. In a tribute to her, Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee said in Berlin:

"Auschwitz survivors are grateful for the long life with which Trude Simonsohn was endowed, despite the horrific experiences she endured in Auschwitz. They are well-aware that the memories of Auschwitz and the sufferings of her family in those years always remained with Trude Simonsohn throughout her long life. This only increases our gratitude for the many conversations she held with young people in order to tell them about her murderous experiences of hatred, anti-Semitism and the indifference of the bystanders who were eye-witnesses.

Trude Simonsohn was an open-minded person filled with the hope that people are prepared to learn from history in order to shape their future in peace and friendship. We will sorely miss Trude Simonsohn, especially in these times of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and renewed far-right hatred."
