Whilst at the Auschwitz Memorial, Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee commented on press reports about the massive increase in anti-Semitic contents on Twitter following its takeover by Elon Musk:

“Holocaust survivors see it as an alarming and threatening development that anti-Semitic contents have massively increased on Twitter since Elon Musk took it over in October 2022. Either Elon Musk does not want to accept any responsibility for Twitter becoming an open playground for anti-Semitic and far-right extremist mud-slingers, or he willingly accepts that anti-Semitic smears and hate speech are gaining more and more space within the sphere that he owns. If Musk does not put a stop to this development, every Twitter user with a sense of responsibility will seriously consider whether he or she wants to trust this platform for their messages in the future. For this reason we strongly urge Elon Musk to free Twitter from these smears and hate speech.”
