In Berlin Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee, congratulated and paid tribute to the film director Steven Spielberg on his 75th birthday:

"Auschwitz survivors around the world are deeply grateful and send their heartfelt good wishes to Steven Spielberg on his 75th birthday. With his film Schindler’s List of 1993, Steven Spielberg unforgettably opened people’s eyes to the horrors of the Holocaust and the courage of individuals in that murderous world. But it was not only with this film that Spielberg triggered an emotional and intellectual debate that continues to this day and repeatedly challenges people to think about their own moral courage in times of anti-Semitic hatred and far-right conspiracy theories.

In his reaction to his personal reflections as the child of a Jewish family and as an artist, Steven Spielberg founded the Shoah Foundation in 1994, which meanwhile has carried out well over 50,000 video interviews with survivors of the Holocaust. This has resulted in the world’s most extensive collection of interviews with witnesses of the Holocaust. In this way Steven Spielberg has become one of the leading ambassadors and broadcasters of the voices of the Holocaust survivors, preserving their memories for posterity and carrying them into the future."
