Auschwitz survivors throughout the world are welcoming Marc Zuckerberg’s decision to banish Holocaust denial from facebook pages. In view of facebook’s worldwide potential to influence people, and its numbers of users, this decision is long overdue.
In Warsaw, the Auschwitz survivor and IAC Vice President Marian Turski said:
“I recently directed an open letter to Marc Zuckerberg and urged him to ensure that his life’s work no longer be sullied and debased by the contempt of Holocaust deniers: I am grateful that he has made this decision.”
And in Berlin Christoph Heubner, the Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee added:
“In view of the increasing willingness to resort to anti-Semitic violence around the world and the incitement preached by right-wing extremists, this decision is of great symbolic significance. Holocaust deniers will no longer be able to spread their lies and their hatred via facebook. It is a good thing that Marc Zuckerberg has finally realized the potential of his worldwide service, and recognized the verbal and real existence of right-wing extremist hatred.”
