Auschwitz survivors in the International Auschwitz Committee welcome the decision taken by the city of Nuremberg to prohibit Mr Gauland from speaking in an upcoming election campaign event at the city’s Meistersingerhalle following his verbal attacks and disgracefully inhuman outbursts.
Commenting on the ban, Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee said during a stay at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial:
"For the survivors of Auschwitz the hate attacks and the violent fantasies that keep on penetrating the public sphere are utterly unbearable. Mr Gauland is playing a decisive role in this context of defamation and denunciation. He has long since been the leader of the pack in the AfD, and he is instrumental in stirring up such sentiments in his party through his own verbal outbursts. For this reason we are all the more grateful to the Mayor of Nuremberg for his decisive and exemplary stance: it is no longer just a question of the hatred that the AfD is spreading via the Internet; it has long since become a question of the hatred that the AfD is constantly spreading in its election campaign as well.”
