Book presentation: Ich sehe Hunde, die an der Leine reißen (I see dogs straining at their leashes)

Commemorating the 115th anniversary of the birth of the German-Jewish artist Felix Nussbaum from Osnabrück, and the upcoming worldwide remembrance ceremonies marking the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz on 27 January 2020:

The International Auschwitz Committee, the Steidl Verlag, Göttingen, and the Representation of Lower Saxony in Berlin are issuing an invitation to the book presentation:

  • Christoph Heubner: Ich sehe Hunde, die an der Leine reißen (I see dogs straining at their leashes)

30 years after his last publication with the Steidl Verlag, the writer Christoph Heubner returns with a new book.

Christoph Heubner brings together memories and accounts in the shape of two stories and diary entries. The narratives are based on the memories and reports that survivors of Auschwitz concentration camp have recounted to him over many decades. “You must write it all down” – this is the urgent request of the survivors who are painfully aware that time is of essence.

The book contains not only “stories from the camp”, but also stories about life before and the loneliness afterwards: stories about hatred and love, stories about the suffering that never ends, and about the hope that lasts forever.
