Commenting on the decision of the Federal Interior Minister to ban the ‘Nordadler’ group, and the decision of the Berlin Administrative Court on the ‘Identitäre Bewegung’ (identity movement), Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee, stated:

"For survivors of the Holocaust it is an alarming reminder and warning to see how anti-Semitic and fascist groups have once again been able to deride democracy in Germany and implant their hatred in the minds of many people, while others act as complacent bystanders. Time and again, the survivors keep on hoping that democrats and democracy in Germany have learned from this lesson.

That is why the survivors see this as a good day for democracy in Germany: The banning by Minister Seehofer of the ‘Nordadler’ Neo-Nazi group, which also operates under the name of ‘Völkische Jugend’ (nationalistic youth), and the decision by Berlin’s Administrative Court to classify another nationalistic youth group called the ‘Identitäre Bewegung’ (identity movement) as ‘confirmed right-wing extremist’, provide proof of a strong and steadfast democracy that is able to defend itself and has learned from history.”
