Survivors of the Holocaust throughout the world are horrified and saddened by the news of the far-right attack on memorial village of Oradour sur Glane. Commenting in Berlin, Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee, said:

“The attack on the memorial village of Oradour sur Glane clearly shows that the European governments urgently need to intensify their fight against fascist ideologies. Neo-Nazis are making increasing efforts to infiltrate Europe with anti-Semitic hatred and their contempt for European remembrance culture. Their targets may be Jewish cemeteries or memorials, such as the village of Oradour sur Glane. It is regarded as one of the world’s most important memorial sites dedicated to victims of the hatred and brutality of Nazi ideology. The premeditated attack on the memorial site represents a renewed effort by violent far-right perpetrators to occupy public space and demonstrate their claim to power. The survivors of the Holocaust expect that, in Europe, not only the French government significantly increases the pressure to identify and prosecute such perpetrators, and protect democracy and defend the dignity of the victims.”
