Commenting on the results of the 2024 European elections, Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice-President of the International Auschwitz Committee, emphasized during a visit to the Auschwitz Memorial:

"For survivors of the Holocaust and the German concentration and extermination camps, this election result is a depressing turning point. Europe is losing and forgetting itself.

In more and more countries, nationalist and right-wing extremist parties are gaining influence, and they actually despise the European idea which grew out of the horrors of the Second World War and the murderous atrocities in the camps.

For survivors of the Holocaust, Europe was and remains the great hope, and for this very reason they urgently request that the other parties in the European Parliament protect this European idea and jointly oppose the agitation and incitement of extreme right-wing forces."
