Speaking in Berlin on today’s Berlinale award of the Honorary Golden Bear for Steven Spielberg, Christoph Heubner, Excutive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee said:

“Survivors of the Shoah around the globe are deeply moved by today’s award for Steven Spielberg, which he received in Berlin for his lifetime achievement. The survivors recognize that his lifelong work also includes the fact that, through his artistic commitment, Steven Spielberg has repeatedly spotlighted the suffering and violence still being generated by anti-Semitism today. Steven Spielberg’s work has made him into one of the most important ambassadors of remembrance by preserving the voices of the survivors and their murdered family members and carrying their legacy into the future.”
