In connection with the AfD National Party Convention in Erfurt on July 4 and 5, 2026, the International Committee for Buchenwald, Dora, and Commando Camps (ICBD) endorses the demand issued by the International Auschwitz Committee on February 11, 2026, and calls on the Federal Government, the Bundestag, and the Bundesrat to take action.
Dear friends of the International Committees of former Concentration Camps,
I would like to inform you that the ICBD has published a statement today in which we call for the far-right AfD party to be banned in Germany. The statement was released on the occasion of the party’s national convention, which is taking place this year in Erfurt - a location that starkly reminds us that exactly 100 years ago, the NSDAP’s “Reich Party Congress” was held in Weimar.
We are facing very serious challenges regarding the AfD’s rise, particularly with regard to our memorial sites in the federal states where the AfD is very strong - the Buchenwald Memorial in Thuringia is one of them.
We sincerely ask you to share this statement and, if possible, to support it - if possible, even officially.
Thank you very much and best regards,
LenaLena Sarah Carlebach
President of the ICBD
