It is with great satisfaction that the Auschwitz survivors in the International Auschwitz Committee have heartily welcomed the clear and exemplary verdict against Radovan Karadzic in the legal proceedings pursuing the largest European genocide since Auschwitz.

In Berlin Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee stressed:

"This verdict is a an important signal showing that the world will never again forget genocide, no matter when or where it is committed, but that it will be pursued by justice. It is very good that the relatives of the victims in Srebrenica and all the other places where atrocities were committed are not being made to wait even more years for this judgement. The Auschwitz survivors express their deep sympathy with you today. The majority of them have never experienced a court conviction of their tormentors and their active helpers."
