Awareness of the horrors of the Holocaust is fading, in public life, in education, in our understanding of values. At the same time, violent anti-Semitic assaults are on the increase. Eva Umlauf, an Auschwitz survivor and one of the last eyewitnesses, is angry about this. Why? Because politicians are simply not doing enough to combat these openly visible developments. And because society is simply standing by and tolerating this hatred with indifference. Her urgent appeal is explicit. It says why we have to act quickly if we do not want to give authoritarian forces even more space. At the same time, it conveys confidence that ‘Never again!’ will hold true, and that there is once again a future for Jewish life without fear in Germany.
