Commenting in Berlin on tomorrow’s run-off election for the mayor of Bitterfeld-Wolfen in Saxony-Anhalt, Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee said:
"Holocaust survivors are following tomorrow’s run-off election for the mayor of Bitterfeld-Wolfen very closely and with great interest. This election is prompting them to wonder whether citizens are going to increasingly place their trust and the future of their town and country in people whose ideological roots already managed to plunge Germany and Europe into sufferings of hatred, conflict and violence. It is precisely for this reason that the survivors of the German concentration and extermination camps want to thank all those people who, not only in Bitterfeld-Wolfen, are standing up against the far right with great creativity, clarity and zest in the interests of democracy and tolerance. They are boosting the survivors’ courage and morale."
