On 28 November 2023, Christoph Heubner, author and Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee was awarded the Charlotte Petersen Medal 2023 by the town of Dillenburg and the Society for Christian-Jewish Co-operation in Dillenburg. He received the award for his long-standing commitment to combatting anti-Semitism and right-wing radicalism, as well as for preserving the memories of the Holocaust survivors.

Professor Sascha Feuchert, head of the Holocaust Literature research group at Giessen University, gave the speech honouring Christoph Heubner. On receiving the award Christoph Heubner said:

"For many decades, the legendary journalist Charlotte Petersen worked for the local newspaper in Dillenburg. She was a wonderful, modest ‘public figure’ in the Federal Republic who, thanks to her personal integrity, empathy and determination did an infinite amount for the survivors of the Holocaust, and consequently contributed towards building a great deal of trust and confidence in Germany in times when overt one-time Nazis were still confidently setting the tone in many areas of officialdom. I feel greatly honoured to be associated with this outstanding, but insufficiently recognized personality. It is, especially in these times, a huge source of encouragement in the fight against anti-Semitism and hatred."

The award ceremony took place on Tuesday, 28 November at 5 pm in the Evangelical Parish Hall ‘Am Zwingel’ in Dillenburg.
