In response to the massive attack by the Palestinian military group Hamas on Israel, Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee, said in Berlin:
“At this time, Auschwitz survivors around the globe are expressing their deep-felt love, concern and solidarity for the Holocaust survivors and their families in Israel, who have been suffering since this morning under a massive attack by the Palestinian Hamas.
Once again, this massive attack not only reawakens the traumatic memories of the survivors. It also adds new images of horror, and reignites the fears for their own newly established families. The attack is rooted in the repeated fuelling of anti-Semitism amongst Palestinians, and the especially in actions of the Palestinian military group Hamas which is sworn to the destruction of the state of Israel and its citizens.
For this reason, not only the German government now needs to ask itself why the EU is repeatedly supporting Palestinian authorities under their president Abbas by providing huge amounts of financial aid, despite the fact that they share in the responsibility for propagating anti-Semitic hatred and violence.”
