Holocaust survivors are becoming increasingly concerned that in Germany the bitter experiences and horrific consequences of the years under the Nazi regime are fading in people’s consciousness. Current political dangers are no longer being recognized.

Christoph Heubner, the Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee commented in Berlin:

"When elected representatives of the CDU and SPD make political arrangements with representatives of the NPD and the AfD in districts, municipalities and local authorities, this means that they are doing nothing less than promoting the gradual destabilization of democracy. Those with whom they are working together despise the republic that they represent. It is astonishing and alarming, how in some places, democrats are naive and blind to history, and are being fooled by the mainstream facade of right-wing extremist and far-right populist forces."
