Commenting in Berlin about the decision of the Federal Constitutional Court on the procedures to ban the NPD, Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the IAC said:
"Today is a tragic day for robust democracy. The IAC has repeatedly called for the banning of the NPD and urged the Federal Constitutional Court to make a decision. For the survivors of the Holocaust, today’s decision is an outrageous and shocking decision that demonstrates a total lack of contact with reality. How can it be that those who, not only in secret cheer the Holocaust, and in many districts permanently provoke new surges of hatred, are permitted to remain in the democratic spectrum and still receive public funding from the state to continue their open incitements and violence against democracy?
In addition to this, the present decision is not only blind to reality and the needs of the time, it’s also sends a fatal signal to Europe, where right-wing extremists and right-wing populists are finding more and more common ground together and are constantly trying to transform people’s fear and uncertainty into hatred and aggression. This evening the right-wing scene is celebrating for easily understood reasons. The question to citizens remains: and what are you going to do now?"
